Who I Serve

I believe that technology can help people with disabilities, struggling learners, people with age related impairments, and others to be more functional in the community, home, school, and work. I have experience in the areas of augmentative and alternative communication, computer access, power mobility, universal design for learning, and worksite accommodations.

My Promise

I don’t work for manufacturers, which helps me to be unbiased in my work. I feel that my job is to make you an informed consumer of technology, so you can make the best decision about what works for you. I’ll work with you as the expert of your body, work, and learning preferences.

About Me - My Name is Patti

I’ve worked as a rehabilitation engineer for over 30 years, helping people to match the features of technology to their needs. Working directly with people with disabilities is the best part of my job. I love the challenge of figuring out how someone can DO something, instead of being told that they CAN’T. Many times technology can help to DO!

How Technology Helps

Alternative Computer and Tablet Access

Most of us use phones, computers, and tablets every day for work, school, and play. There are lots of built in options that make devices easier to use for everyone, but especially for people with disabilities. There are custom options too.

Technology for Learning

Recently, I’ve been educating students and professionals about Universal Design for Learning and how it can help students with learning disabilities to excel. It’s so fun when people realize that technology can work for all of us.

Augmentative/Alternative Communication

People who are non-verbal or difficult to understand by unfamiliar communication partners still need to communicate. Much of my work for many years involved helping teams to determine the best fit of AAC devices.

Worksite Accommodations

So much of our identity is tied to our job. Whether someone has difficulty coming back to work after injury, finding accommodations for a first job, or staying in the workforce, technology and accommodations can help.

We should celebrate neurodiversity – the world would be
poorer and life duller if we were all the same.
